About the Item

Description: An embroidered marriage cushion made in Sweden during the early 19th century. Dated to 1810 and saturated with dense floral embroidery, this rectangular cushion may have been created as a wedding gift or by a bride to commemorate a marriage. Two sets of initials are set within an embroidered pattern of geometric lattice work and a  rich, swirling border of flowers and birds. The thick wool threads have retained much of their original colour, and the piece is in excellent vintage condition for its age. The marriage cushion is still in-tact and would accommodate a feather insert. Alternatively, the piece can be enjoyed as a wall hanging. Specifications: Height: 51cm Width: 112cm
