The Tunisian Kilim, pronounced "klim" in Tunisia, is known for its lightweight wool construction and is predominantly woven in the towns and villages of central and southern Tunisia, such as Gafsa, Sidi Bou Zid, Toujane, and Djerba. These kilims are characterized by their linear weaving style, often composed of strips woven tightly, allowing artisans to experiment with colors and patterns. The geometric designs, many of which have Berber origins, showcase a variety of famous motifs, including fish, chessboards, diamonds, and gazelles. Each kilim tells a story, reflecting the creativity and imagination of the craftswomen who produce them.
This Gafsa wall hanging not only makes for an ideal decorative piece but also shows the skill and artistry of Tunisian weaving. With its bright colors and traditional motifs, it is sure to shine as a remarkable focal point on any wall. Reversible and rich in symbolism, this charming tapestry from the Gafsa region is a true treasure, embodying the rich heritage of Southern Tunisia and its finest craftsmanship.
There is two loops for wall hanging on the upper reverse side of the tapestry.
