French Aubusson Tapestry, Late 17th - Jesus and the Samaritan Woman - N° 1547

About the Item

Aubusson Tapestry, Late 17th Century - Jesus and the Samaritan Woman - 2m35Hx1m55W - No. 1547 Period: 17th century Style: Biblical Condition: Perfect condition - Hand woven Material: Wool & Silk Width: 155 cm Height: 235 cm Depth: 1 cm In keeping with tradition, this magnificent tapestry has undergone a thorough cleaning, a hand-sewn linen lining, and a meticulous inspection by our experts in our artisan workshop. It is now ready to adorn your home. In the New Testament, only the text of John (4:1-30) recounts the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. According to the tradition of Orthodox Christianity, this woman is called Photina the Samaritan. When Jesus, resting by a well on his return to Galilee, asks her for a drink, the Samaritan woman is surprised that he, a Jew, would dare to ask her for water: the Jews despised the Samaritans and did not speak to them. Jesus replies that the water she draws does not quench thirst, but that the living water he gives springs up, and whoever drinks it will never thirst again.
