About the Item
Goblin tapestry named 'Wakacje' (meaning; Holidays) is designed by Boruck for Pilsko and woven by Tomaszek, Slonka, Poland 1955. This colourful goblin appears a pictorial abstraction of the countryside with a view on the trees and houses in the background, hand woven in thick hand spun wool. It is a great piece of wall art images creating warmth and depth to your space.
Poland is well famous for their Mid Century tapestries. At the first Lausanne International Tapestry Biennial in 1962 Polish weavers made a huge splash. The designers of the works actually wove their piece themselves, re-inventing traditional techniques and materials. They created a new style of abstraction in thick rustic handmade wool, materials were scarse at the time. These goblins are very hard to find. Not many made the journey abroad due to the Polish regime in the 1950s-1960s.
