About the Item

This tapestry has already been cleaned in our craft workshop The setting sun bathed the hills of Canaan in golden light, but in Jacob’s heart, darkness reigned. He sat bent, his eyes red with tears, holding in his trembling hands a torn and bloodied piece of cloth. It was the tunic of Joseph, his beloved son. Jacob remembered the joy that had lit up his face when he had given that tunic to Joseph. It was a symbol of his love, a token of his preference for the son of Rachel, his beloved wife. But the tunic, once so beautiful, was now stained with blood, a cruel reminder of the loss that had befallen his home. His sons had returned from the pastures, their faces grave, avoiding his gaze. They had claimed to have found the tunic torn, stained with animal blood. They had insinuated that a wild beast had attacked Joseph, devouring him without a trace. Jacob had refused to believe it. Joseph was strong, courageous. He couldn’t have been defeated by a beast. But the sight of the tunic, the pain in the eyes of his other sons, had convinced him. His heart had broken. He had torn his clothes, covered himself in ashes, and wept and wept endlessly. His daughters had tried to comfort him, but their words were in vain. His grief was too deep, his pain too intense. Jacob couldn’t imagine life without Joseph. His son was his joy, his hope. He had dreamed of seeing him grow up, of seeing him raise a family. But those dreams were now reduced to dust. For days, weeks, months, Jacob mourned Joseph. He wandered like a shadow, his heart heavy, his eyes empty. The bloody tunic had become his burden, a constant reminder of his loss. He didn’t know that Joseph was alive, sold into slavery in Egypt. He didn’t know that his other sons had deceived him, consumed by jealousy. Little did he know that Joseph’s story was far from over. But for now, Jacob wept, wept for the loss of his beloved son, his heart broken by pain and deception.
