Kennedy Bahia, Tapisserie, circa 1960

About the Item

Composed of wool, this tapestry presents a recurring theme of Kennedy Bahia's work, the Dream Garden. Stylized flowers in strong colors rub shoulders with exotic animals giving the image of a dreamed Amazon. Kennedy Bahia was one of the pioneers of the expansion of fine arts in the state and became known for his joyful and colorful tapestries. In the 60s and 70s, Kennedy Bahia, who was very friendly with the writer Jorge Amado and the artist Carybé, was considered the greatest tapestry artist in Brazil, his Fauna e Flora da Bahia collection, from 1973, being appreciated by collectors around the world. The artist also contributed to the dissemination of Bahian culture, in particular by adopting the name of the state and disseminating information about Bahia in all the countries where he traveled with his works.
