"In 1767, the court painter Doyen was commissioned by a nobleman to depict his mistress on a swing, pushed by a bishop, while he himself would be portrayed observing the fluttering skirts. Shocked by the request, Doyen recommended Fragonard, renowned for his expertise in amorous scenes, to undertake the painting."
