About the Item

Geysir, located in the Haukadalur geothermal area of Iceland, is one of the world’s most famous geysers and the origin of the very word “geyser.” While the Great Geysir itself has become less active, its neighbor, Strokkur, continues to erupt with remarkable consistency—every 5 to 10 minutes—transforming it into a natural timekeeper. With each eruption, Strokkur sends boiling water soaring 20–30 meters (65–100 feet) into the sky, drawing visitors who instinctively reach for their cameras, anticipating the spectacle. The geyser’s predictability creates a rhythmic pulse in the landscape, as if the Earth itself were measuring the passing moments. This phenomenon, driven by Iceland’s powerful geothermal forces, is a reminder of the unseen energy beneath our feet. It is this unique interplay between nature and time that inspired Anotherview to feature Geysir as part of their nomadic 24-hour digital window project capturing an entire day in the life of this extraordinary site. Filmed on a cloudy day at the end of summer 2022, the piece immerses viewers in a cyclical world where time is not marked by clocks, but by nature’s own rhythm. As the hours pass, the anticipation of each eruption is reflected in the gathering crowds, their phones poised, their excitement rising with the steam—each burst a fleeting yet timeless moment of wonder.
