Italian Armorial Pediments with Eagles, a Pair
About the Item
A near pair of 19th century, Italian hand carved armorial crest, pediments with crowns, eagles and lions. The carvings are beautifully executed. Each pediment displays a unique royal crown and shield carved below. One shield with three mallets has the words “DIO E IL DUCA”, God and the Duke. The other shield with lions consists of flanked eagles with their wings outstretched along with grapes on vines and a carved ribbon below the shield. The shield is flanked by stalks of greenery, flowers, roses, and daisies and others complete the design of each shield. circa 1870.
