About the Item
Part of Marcin Rusak’s signature Flora collection, the wall-hanging Flora Disc 35 constitutes a unique decorative piece that works well in a variety of settings. Based on discarded flowers carefully submerged in resin, the piece is entirely handmade in a labour-intensive process, in which everything, from collecting and processing the flowers to encapsulating them in cast resin, and to setting the material in a brushed brass frame, is done by hand.
Each piece is composed almost like a painting, with the artist selecting the botanical matter based on its sculptural qualities and unique colours. Beset in brass, the piece acquires a particular depth, with flowers floating just underneath the shiny surface creating a spatial, three-dimensional and complex composition. A resemblance to traditional Flemish still lifes is intentional and almost unavoidable. The artist makes several compositions, and only when the effect is satisfactory does he translate it into the material.
The piece is thus entirely unique and customisable in a variety of sizes, colours and finishes. Available Flora Temporaria colours include Black, Misty White, Rust, Brunswick Green, Amber, and Clear, in polished (glossy) and matte (satin) finish. The Flora Perma material, in which real flowers are machine-cut to reveal anatomical cross-sections, is available in Black, White and Rust, in matte finish. The brushed brass frame can also be made in aluminium or stainless steel. Lead time for a new commission is ca. 12-16 weeks.
The price includes packing and crating in a wooden fumigated crate, and excludes shipping costs, import duties, and taxes, if applicable.

Marcin Rusak
Marcin Rusak was born in 1987, Warsaw, Polan). Rusak is an artist and multidisciplinary designer interested in ideas of value, ephemerality and aesthetics. Specializing in storytelling, process and material investigation his work often incorporates research, object and installation as well as visual creations to explore overlooked details of our lives, which recreated and re-imagined are shown again in a different light. As the son and grandson of flower growers, he has long been fascinated by these natural sources of inspiration and decoration. Engaging them in his creative process began by reusing waste to investigate new decorative elements within everyday objects and led to a rich body of work ranging from research and storytelling to cultural criticism around consumption and future scenarios.
Made with real flowers and resin, the Flora Disc 35 is customisable in terms of dimensions and finishes.
