About the Item

Monoxyle African Door Carved & Ornamented with Bronze – Bamoun Chief, Cameroon, Early 20th Century Exceptional Piece – African Tribal Art – Prestige Object This monoxyle African door, carved from solid wood, is a unique and rare piece originating from the Bamoun Kingdom in Cameroon and dating back to the early 20th century. Created by a traditional artist for a village chief, it reflects ancestral craftsmanship and a rich symbolic heritage. The carved surface is structured around three village scenes: – Harvesting from trees – Ceremony with festive dances – Antelope and lion hunting Each scene is finely worked in deep and open relief, expressing daily life, rituals, and sacred connections with nature. Bronze elements inlaid along the edges represent human figures, tutelary spirits, and protective fetishes, emphasizing the door’s status as a ritual object and symbol of authority. Cleaned and waxed by our restoration workshop, this piece is in very good condition, ready to be displayed indoors or integrated into a collection. Dimensions: Height: 172 cm Width: 58 cm Depth: 8 cm Weight: 40 kg A remarkable piece for collectors of African art, primitive design, and prestigious ethnographic objects.
