Old Japanese natural wood wall vase/20th century/Wabi-sabi object
About the Item
This is a vase made from the base of an old Japanese tree, thought to have been made around the 20th century. Although details of the wood are unknown, it is believed to be tsuga (Tsuga), a Japanese tree species. The unique shape formed by nature over a long period of time gives a powerful impression as if the life force of the tree is locked in the vase.
While the workmanship is very rustic, the modifications are kept to a minimum in order to maximize the natural appearance of the tree. A portion of the trunk has been hollowed out to create an interior cavity designed for arranging flowers. Since water cannot be poured directly into the bamboo tube, please fill it with water and place the flowers in it. Please note that the bamboo tube may crack due to drying.
Dried flowers or artificial flowers would also be wonderful to hang on the wall.
The back of the vase is notched for hanging on a wall, suggesting that the vase was originally designed to be hung on a wall. Natural wood vases like this are occasionally seen in Japan, but such large-sized vases are very rare, and this is a very special opportunity to introduce them here. While smaller ones can be easily collected from branches, the number of such powerful forms must be extremely limited due to the scarcity of the material itself.
When actually installed on a wall, its presence is overwhelming, bringing a quiet energy to the space. It blends seamlessly into modern interiors, and it also blends naturally into a calm space with a wabi sabi (Japanese traditional aesthetic) as its base. Even a single flower in this vase will add depth and dimension to a space.
Please enjoy the one-of-a-kind presence of this fusion of the beauty of form created by nature and the passage of time.
