About the Item
Large wall installation by Sotis Filippides stoneware (crank clay), 24-carat gold and platinum (real precious metals not leaf) entirely handmade unique piece. Measures: Approximate 160cm length x 55 cm height x 15cm depth
This beautiful ceramic wall installation is made of individually hand shaped stoneware shards covered alternatively in 24-carat gold and platinum recreating incredible shimmering effects that only real precious metals can give.
Sotis Filippides is a London based Greek ceramic artist. He works with grog clay, also known as fire sand and chamotte, which comes in small to medium sized particles and contains a high percentage of alumina and silica. He then applies to the raw clay a variety of oxides underneath the dry glazes to achieve unique and rather unpredictable results during firing sometimes even 3 or 4 times to reach the desired effect. Sotis often uses precious metals like 24-carat gold or platinum sourced from Italy in liquid form, which create a strong and beautiful contrast with the rough textured surfaces of the clay he uses. Sotis has a studio and showroom in London and has worked internationally with several galleries and with some of the most globally renowned interior designer firms.
