Introducing Our Trade Price Guarantee

We promise that our trade members never have to choose between getting the lowest advertised net price and receiving the important protections and benefits of purchasing online on 1stdibs.

If you see a 1stdibs dealer post a lower net price somewhere else or if the dealer offers you a better price for buying outside of 1stdibs, let us know. We'll match the price and assist you with completing the purchase online.* The dealer still makes the sale, and 1stdibs earns a commission that helps us continue to operate our marketplace.

Details

Why is 1stdibs introducing a net price guarantee for the trade?

We understand that you want to obtain the best price for your client without wasting precious time doing so. When you complete your purchase on 1stdibs, you can be confident that you're getting the lowest advertised price, plus our buyer protection program, global shipping and more. If you ever find this not to be the case, let us know so we can make it right.

How can I be sure I won't find a lower net price anywhere else online?

1stdibs has the finest dealers in more than 500 cities around the world. As part of their agreement with us, they certify that they will not advertise a lower net price anywhere else, and that any time a customer reaches them through 1stdibs, the order will be completed online through 1stdibs at their lowest advertised net price.

Why is it important to purchase online on 1stdibs?

Dealers pay 1stdibs a commission on each sale to help cover the cost of running the site. Recently we significantly reduced the non-commission fees that dealers pay, so we rely almost entirely on commissions in order to operate the site. The dealers on 1stdibs have agreed to this policy of completing orders on our site and paying commission because it is mutually beneficial: We succeed only when our dealers succeed.

How It Works

As a trade member, you see dealers' net prices on more than 150,000 pieces. Our dealers agree to post their lowest advertised price on 1stdibs.

If the net price is not listed (or if you would like to make an offer or ask a question), click 'Request Net Price' or 'Request More Info' to send the dealer a message.

If the dealer replies that the best price is available only if you purchase outside the 1stdibs site, let us know. We'll match their offer and help you complete your purchase online.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the guarantee work and what does it cover?

Our guarantee covers any item you find on 1stdibs. In order for 1stdibs to match the dealer's offer, you must present a written offer from the dealer and you must complete the purchase through 1stdibs checkout. Simply present the written offer to your trade specialist and they will assist you with completing your order on 1stdibs at the net price offered by the dealer.

What if I don't have the offer in writing?

You must present a written offer in order for 1stdibs to match the price. We cannot match offers that you received only in person or over the phone.

What benefits do I receive when I complete my purchase online?

Buying online through our secure checkout is the only way to take advantage of important protections and benefits for yourself and your clients. Should any issue or dispute arise with a purchase you made through 1stdibs checkout, you are covered by our buyer protection program. We also offer competitive shipping rates with full insurance and an exclusive returns guarantee for the trade. All these benefits are complimentary.

Are dealers allowed to offer a better price on an item if it is not purchased through 1stdibs?

When you contact a dealer about an item you found on 1stdibs, it is a violation of that dealer's agreement with us to offer you a better price for purchasing outside of the 1stdibs website. When dealers apply and are accepted to sell on 1stdibs, they agree that they will not advertise a lower net price anywhere else, and that when customers contact them about pieces found on 1stdibs, the order will be completed on 1stdibs. As with most other marketplaces, dealers pay 1stdibs a commission on each sale to help cover the cost of running the site. In fact, we recently significantly reduced the fees that dealers pay 1stdibs, so we rely almost entirely on charging commissions on successful online sales in order to operate the site.

What does it mean for the dealer when I report that I have been offered a better price to purchase outside of 1stdibs?

We will help you complete the purchase online, so the dealer will still make the sale. The dealer will pay commission to 1stdibs. However, dealers who repeatedly violate our policy will no longer be able to list their pieces for sale on our site. By completing your purchase online, you help ensure that 1stdibs can continue to offer an exceptional selection of pieces from around the world. If you receive an offer to purchase directly from a dealer, we highly encourage you to contact us for assistance with placing the order on the 1stdibs site.

I've been buying directly from some of your dealers for years. Why should I start placing orders through 1stdibs now?

We understand that many of our trade members have longstanding relationships with dealers, and we want those relationships to continue. It's specifically for cases where you find a piece and contact a dealer through 1stdibs that, per our policy, the order must be completed through 1stdibs.

This policy is not new, but it has become an increasingly important part of how 1stdibs works. Earlier this year we eliminated a large portion of dealers' monthly fees, meaning that our main source of revenue is the commission we take on online orders. This was a positive change for both 1stdibs and our dealers because it aligns our incentives: We succeed only when our dealers succeed. The dealers on 1stdibs have agreed to this policy of completing orders on our site and paying commission because it is mutually beneficial. As a customer, you can support 1stdibs and our global network of dealers by placing your orders online.

If a piece is listed on 1stdibs with a net price, can I still negotiate?

We encourage dealers to offer their best net price up front, as it saves both you and them time. That said, just as in the dealer's store, a dealer may be willing to extend a better net price to certain customers, or may have room to negotiate. You always have the option of selecting 'Request More Info' to send the dealer a message and inquire about pricing; you'll also see an option to include an offer with your message by clicking 'Make an Offer.'
