About the Item

An exceptional tribal bangle or anklet from Rajasthan, India, dating to the mid-20th century. Known regionally as a Kadla or Kadiya, this piece was traditionally worn by Rajasthani tribal women as both an arm or ankle adornment, symbolizing strength, identity, and cultural heritage. Expertly crafted in hollow silver with traces of its original gold gilt, the piece features a quarter-hinged opening mechanism for easy wear. Its bold, sculptural form, organic wear, and rich patina reflect generations of use and the skilled hand of rural silversmiths. The versatile scale and construction allow it to be worn as either a statement bangle or a tribal anklet, depending on fit and styling preference. Origin: Rajasthan, India Date: Circa 1950s Material: Gold-gilt hollow silver Use: Wearable as a bangle or anklet Closure: Hinged quarter opening Inner Diameter: 2.5 inches (6.35 cm) Inner Circumference: 7.75 inches (19.7 cm) Outer Diameter: 3 inches (7.6 cm) Max Width: 0.5 inches (1.27 cm) Weight: 54 grams Condition: Excellent antique condition with minor dents and dings consistent with age. When opened, a small section may appear missing, but this is believed to be original to the design, created to ensure the bangle locks securely in place. This is not noticeable when worn. Highly collectible and visually compelling, this piece is ideal for collectors of ethnographic jewelry or those drawn to the bold elegance of wearable history. Whether styled or displayed, it embodies the enduring artistry and spirit of Rajasthan’s tribal heritage.
