About the Item

Fire-blackened steel, hand worked to achieve a hammered finish, then formed into the form of a "C" shaped bangle. Six natural and untreated Burmese jadeite jade beads are divided by a handmade bead created from recycled gold. The coloring of the beads both mirrors and contrasts with the gold. The first three jade beads measure 7.41mm, 7.80mm, 9.56mm. The gold bead in the center measures 9.87mm and weighs approximately 4 grams of gold that tests at just shy of 22K. The remaining three jade beads measure 9.52mm, 8.01mm, and 7.42mm. The steel wire is approximately 7" long and 2.23mm wide. The 37.69 makes this bracelet a perfect fit for somebody with a larger wrist. The bracelet is photographed on an 8" wrist. The beads spin and have a slight range of lateral movement on top of the bracelet, but they won't slide down because the hammered steel locks them in place. Rustic, organic, 100% natural. Both the beads and the steel have been waxed to protect the steel from water so it doesn't rust. I recommend reapplying a light coat of wax after the bracelet gets wet. The beads are highly translucent, cut and polished entirely by hand. There's no lab cert for the jade beads, but previous beads from this same collection were tested and I guarantee they are natural and untreated jadeite.

Jade, Bangle, Created with Ohio Steel & 18K Gold, 70mm, 9"
By Augusten Burroughs
Located in Southbury, CT
I created this jadeite jade bead bangle with heavy gauge Ohio steel that I hand-worked into shape. This open bangle is worn by sliding your wrist through the bangle's narrow opening. Then you slide the "S" through the loop. It measures 9" in length but the beads add thickness making it wear more like an 8.5" bracelet. It can fit many different wrist sizes. As long as your hand measures more than 70mm from knuckle to knuckle, it won't slide off your hand. But an individual with a large to extra-large hand and wrist will probably find this bangle most comfortable. You can wear it alone or stacked with others. Twenty-six hand-carved beads move freely along the steel. These are untreated hand-cut and polished beads in a variety of green and greenish-gray tones. The beads range in size from 6.40mm to 8.24 and they average 8mm. A 7.6mm gold ring serves as a slender focal point. Like most of the pieces in this collection, there is no lab certification included for the jade. This saves money helps me keep the price down, but does require a leap of faith on your end. All of the jade I use in my collection are from previously-tested "batches" from specific suppliers and all previous samples have tested as "A" jade. I only use "leftover" jade beads that I had in my collection after creating a necklace and then sending that necklace to the gem lab for testing and certification. Even though I can identify jade treatments with about 99% accuracy, I only sell jade that has been lab tested and is natural and untreated. Even my nephrite has been tested, which is highly uncommon in the industry. Yet Tiffany & Co. coats their nephrite necklaces...

Jade Bangle 18K Gold & Ohio Steel, Hand Forged, 65mm
By Augusten Burroughs
Located in Southbury, CT
I created this bangle with heavy gauge Ohio steel that I hand-work into shape. This open bangle is worn by sliding your wrist through the bangle's narrow opening. It's rigid enough to retain its shape, but flexible enough to fit many wrists. Use two hands to carefully narrow or widen if needed. Adorning the bangle are ten highly translucent earth-toned hand-carved jadeite jade beads from Burma (Myanmar), each of which measures approximately 8mm. They are accompanied by a pair of 6.8mm 18k yellow gold rings. A 9.81mm sage green opaque (yet translcent) focal point bead resides in the center. Like most of the pieces in this collection, there is no lab certification included for the jade. This saves money and helps me keep the price down but does require a leap of faith on your end. 18K Gold, Jade, Bangle Created with Ohio Steel, 70mm

I created this bangle with heavy gauge Ohio steel that I hand-worked into shape. This open bangle is worn by sliding your wrist through the bangle's narrow opening. It's rigid enough to retain its shape, but flexible enough to fit many wrists. Use two hands to carefully narrow or widen if needed. Adorning the bangle are eight highly translucent slightly bluish-green hand-carved jadeite jade rondel beads from Guatemala, each of which measures almost 10mm. They are accompanied by a pair of 8mm agarwood (or oud) wood beads. Agarwood is a rare wood prized for centuries as a perfume ingredient and an expensive one at that. The aroma is a result when a particular species of tree native to Asia becomes infected with a particular bacteria. The longer and more intense the infection, the greater the smell. These are not antique beads, so their aroma is extremely subtle. A 12.45mm Guatemalan jadeite bead serves as the focal point and a pair of small (4.29mm) 18K yellow gold rings serve as bookends on either side. Like most of the pieces in this collection, there is no lab certification included for the jade. This saves money and helps me keep the price down but does require a leap of faith on your end. 24K Gold, Jade, Bangle Created with Ohio Steel, XL 77mm
By Augusten Burroughs
Located in Southbury, CT
I created this bangle with heavy gauge Ohio steel that I hand-work into shape. This bangle features one primitive-cut bluish-green natural and untreated jadeite bead from Guatemala, a teal green untreated jadeite bead from Burma (Myanmar), a "devil's work" double ring carved from a single piece of blue untreated (except for paraffin -wax), and a 4 gram ring of pure 24 karat yellow gold. The interior diameter is 77mm, so it will fit an individual with a larger hand and wrist. I'm a 6'1" man with large hands and this bangle fits me perfectly. The steel is 2.66mm thick, the round jade bead is almost 17mm, the gold ring 22.74mm, the primitive bead...

Jade Bracelet Guatemalan Jadeite Jade, 18K, Beaded Stretch, 69mm, 8.75" XL Size
By Augusten Burroughs
Located in Southbury, CT
This 8.75" beaded stretch bracelet is composed of the most stunning and unique hand-carved jadeite jade beads from Guatemala. With an inner diameter of approximately 69mm unstretched, this will those with fit medium, large and XL hands and wrists. As long as your hand is larger than 69mm measured from knuckle to knuckle, it won't slide off your wrist. The bracelet is composed entirely of 28 hand-carved and hand-polished natural and untreated jadeite jade beads from Guatemala and they vary widely in both size and shape. From a 10mm x 8mm cylindrical black jade bead to an 8.15mm almost perfectly round deep emerald-green bead. Two beads are in the 16mm range and several of them have a "primitive" cut, much like the beads the ancient Mayan's would have worn. The tones here are spectacular. From a lush jungle green to the iconic bluish-green only found in Guatemala. There is yellowish green, pale mint green, teal, and emerald. Even the large opaque beads possess a luminous quality. And the translucent beads are just captivating. Three solid 18K gold 5mm beads and one thick, 11mm hand-hammered 18K gold ring complete the bracelet. It weighs a hefty 55 grams, so it's deeply satisfying on the wrist. As a second-generation jade collector, the unique jade from Guatemala has become my favorite variety of jade; my favorite gem. Burma (Myanmar) has long been the primary source for all jadeite in the world. While jadeite is found in other areas in very small amounts, none can equal the magnificence and range of colors that Burmese jade has to offer. It is among the world's most expensive gems because fine jadeite is extremely rare. Jadeite can only form under highly specific geological conditions and Guatemala has these conditions. The ancient Mayan civilization knew jade well and used it for jewelry, masks and more. But like the ancient cities themselves, the jungles consumed the jade mines...
