About the Item

Antique 19th Century Baroque Pearl and Diamond Bee Brooch in Silver and Gold, circa 1880. A poetic example of Victorian naturalism, this antique bee brooch from the late 19th century is exquisitely crafted in silver and rose gold, combining imaginative design with exquisite materials. Dated circa 1880, the piece features a natural baroque pearl forming the body—chosen for its organic contours that closely mimic the anatomy of a real bee. The wings are intricately pavé-set with glinting rose-cut diamonds in silver, their delicate veins articulated in openwork to capture movement and light. The legs and setting are worked in warm-toned rose gold, and the antennae curl gracefully forward, tipped with additional rose-cut diamonds for a lifelike flourish. Victorian jewelers were deeply influenced by the natural world, and the bee—symbolizing diligence, order, and resurrection—was a favorite motif in both sentimental and symbolic jewelry. This brooch embodies that spirit, balancing elegance and whimsy in a jewel that remains as collectible as it is charming. Details: • Pearl: Baroque pearl; white color (assessed); natural origin (assessed, not certified) • Dimensions: 3.1 x 2.5 cm • Weight: 7.55g A rare survivor of the high Victorian era—refined, sculptural, and full of character.
