Madeleine Albright's Spider Leaf Pin Pendant Diamond Black Pearl 14 Karat Gold
Located in New York, NY
Indulge in a piece of American History with Madeleine Albright's life size Spider On Leaf Pin or Pendant with Diamonds and Black Pearl in 14 Karat White and Yellow Gold, along with a copy of her book Read My Pins: Stories From A Diplomat's Jewel Box. We are honored to present this iconic pin from the personal collection of Secretary Madeleine Albright. Madeleine Albright was the first woman to serve as Secretary of State. As Ambassador to the United Nations and Secretary of State, Albright was often the only woman in the room during critical discussions with her diplomatic colleagues and counterparts, who were virtually all men. In such gatherings, Albright followed the advice she had given as a professor to her female students: “Do not be afraid to interrupt. A woman usually prefers to size up a situation before speaking, but for a diplomat representing the United States, silence was not an option.” During her trailblazing diplomatic career, Secretary Albright discovered the power of jewelry to convey foreign policy messages. As shared in her book Read My Pins: Stories from a Diplomat’s Jewel Box, she deployed pins within her “personal diplomatic arsenal” to express her hopes, mood, and often a pointed message. She utilized this unconventional and effective tool for diplomacy on America’s behalf. Albright said the pins served as “gentle implements of statecraft, teaching tools and a different form of communication.” She knew that the idea of using pins as a diplomatic tool was not found in any State Department manual or text chronicling American foreign policy. She explained that “the truth is that it would never have happened if not for Saddam Hussein.” The poet-in-residence of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein called Albright “an unparalleled serpent” when she was the Ambassador to the United Nations. Shortly thereafter, when preparing to meet with Iraqi officials, Albright decided to make a diplomatic statement by wearing a pin with a serpent wrapped around a stick. Although her method of communication was new, her message was as old as the American Revolution – Don’t Tread on Me! From that day on, pins became part of her diplomatic signature. Albright chose pins ahead of meetings with foreign dignitaries to signal her diplomatic position. Indeed, freedom and democracy had no greater champion than Secretary Madeleine K. Albright. As Madeleine Albright says in her book "As for the spider, it has been renowned since ancient times for its patience, wile and predatory attitude. I wear my spider pin when I am feeling devious; if you see it on any day except Halloween, beware." This spider pin or pendant is probably the most spectacular of Secretary Albright's spider pins. The stunning life size spider is set with a 10mm Black Pearl of great beauty. The fabulous spider rests on on a partially eaten leaf in 14 Karat White and Yellow gold. The center vein of the leaf is set with sparkling white diamonds which are graduated in size along the length of the leaf. The leaf has wonderful tendrils on the underside adding to the three dimensional quality of the jewel. The pin can also be worn as a pendant necklace as it has a bail through which you may place a necklace chain. Here is a singular opportunity to acquire an object of American history that Secretary Albright cherished throughout her life. The pin will be sent along with a copy of Secretary Albright's book Read My Pins. The pin is guaranteed to be from the personal collection of Madeleine Albright and was acquired from the sale of her collection. The spider pin or pendant is 3 1/4 inches long and is 1 1/4 inches wide. The pin is hallmarked RB...
