About the Item

The unique vibrant green color of malachite is beautiful set in the gold or heavily gold cased setting of these cloak pins. Malachite has natural back stripes in the stone. When gold cased jewelry is heavily cased it tests as gold making it difficult to be exact about the gold content. The pins appear as 15 kt and I will call it that though the offering price is the same either way. The large of the two pins with the gem wrapped with a happy serpent. It is 9.5cm long. The small is 7cm long. The gold chain connecting the two gracefullydrapes between them. It is 34 cm long The weight is 15.25 grams. The pins are mid victorian c. 1850-1860. They are British or Scottish. Malachite was a good health symbol in the Victorian Era. It was known too as a fertility stone. It's special characteristic is to aide someone in recovering from trauma. This dynamic gem is stunning on textures, plaids or solid color fabrics. The pins are in perfect condition

Antique Victorian Serpentine Scottish Agate Brooch
Located in Stamford, CT
Undulating swirls of agate in mellow colors are cut and polished, then set in silver. Texture and softness were created by the jeweler with his choice of patterned agates as well as his ability to sculpt the stone. The pink agates are not frequently seen in scottish 19th century jewelry. Here they beautifully punctuate the horizontal plane. All of the workmanship was performed by hand Scottish jewelry, as well as Scottish tradition, were brought to the forefront during the second half of the 19th century because Queen Victorian and Prince Albert were deeply involved with and romanced Scottish tradition. At their privately owned castle Balmoral they dressed in Scottish clothing and wore Scottish jewelry. Their dedication brought Scottish agate...
