Wiese dragon tie pin in 18 karat yellow gold. Beautiful tie pin in the medieval neo-Gothic style, featuring a winged dragon in the round. Antique pin, circa 1890, signed Wiese. Eagle head hallmark and goldsmith's mark of Louis Wiese. Height: 7.3 cm - Diameter: 1.1 cm Note: A similar model can be seen at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, Inventory number: 37064 Bibliography: Fauna: Gallery of jewels, by Patrick Mauriès and Évelyne Possémé, p.113 Weight: 3.69 gr *The antique box is not sold with the jewel* Louis Wièse (1852–1923) was a jeweler who succeeded his father, Jules Wièse, a renowned figure in neo-Renaissance and neo-Gothic jewelry. Trained in the family workshop, he took over the business in 1880 and developed a style rich in Gothic, Renaissance, and medieval references. His work, displaying great technical mastery, combines finely chiseled gold, colored enamels, and gemstones, and is now featured in the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
