About the Item
Circa 1880s, 14k, Italy. These glamourous chandelier earrings feature elegant Baroque style and finely carved coral cameos. The look is one-of-a-kind antique chic underscored by fine detail and meticulous fabrication They are in excellent condition. Noted: possibly later tops; the posts are definitely a contemporary addition.
Stone Details: "Today, when coral reefs are protected from harvest for their invaluable ecological role, the trade of old coral represents the best of all worlds. The beauty of this natural stone is recognized, and pieces which had been harvested in the past are lovingly handed down (recycled!). It is a wonderfully green way to wear fashionable organics and to feel good doing it!"
Remark: "I have a weakness for coral cameos. They were only used in better jewelry and are not commonly made today. Carving them is almost a lost art. I believe that they celebrate both the power and femininity of women."
