Victorian Natural Seed Pearl Fringe Earrings
About the Item
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, naturally formed seed pearls were harvested from the river Thames. Paintings document chandelier earrings like these worn by aristocrats with their gowns of silk and hair upswept, I display such a painting at an antique show. The top section of these earrings holds tightly strung 19th century pearls which were woven on to an orb. From there, multiple strands form a fringe that descends 1 1/2 inches. Later, the new shepherds hooks were attached with a cultured pearl added to them and the earrings were then restrung. They are in perfect condition, are light in weight and move gracefully. Condition is fine.
