Huggies earrings designed by Mauboussin. Contemporary pair of huggie earrings, created in Paris France by the jewelry house of Mauboussin. They were crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish and designed as a left and right pair. They are embellished with a pair of natural earth mined diamonds and fitted at the reverse with posts for pierced ears and comfortable omega backs for fastening clips. Diamonds: Mounted in flush settings, with 2 round brilliant cut diamonds, 0.50 carats, white colorless F/G color, VS-2 clarity. Weight: 18.45 Grams, (11.83 Dwt). Measurements: 20 mm by 9.5 mm (0.79 x 0.37 Inches). Hallmarks: They are both stamped with French marks, the head of the eagle for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold, the maker's mark Ste. M. associated to Mauboussin, the mark for the assay of the gold, the serial numbers and signed, "MAUBOUSSIN PARIS .750 C9780 LR *1355MI". Mauboussin The history of the House of Mauboussin goes back to 1827, when a certain Mr. Rocher opened a jewelry workshop in Paris, at rue Greneta. His successor, Jean-Baptiste Noury, took over the direction of the workshop and renamed it “Maison Noury”: it was under this name that he participated in the Universal Exhibition in Paris and won the bronze medal in 1878. A little later, Jean-Baptiste Noury hired his nephew Georges Mauboussin as an apprentice, who took over the direction of the workshops in 1883. Georges Mauboussin gave his name to the jewelry house in 1922: it then became Mauboussin, Noury successor. In order not to lose its reputation as a house known for the quality of its stones, the house keeps the Noury filiation in its name. After the episode of the Great War, Georges Mauboussin, as a visionary, felt the need to move closer to the Opera district and moved to rue de Choiseul in 1923. He reorganized the tasks, controlling all the stages of manufacture, placing the lapidary and diamond workshops at the top of the building. Designers, jewelers, setters and polishers are located above the sales and exhibition rooms on the second floor, with no shop window opening directly onto the street, as customers are still fiercely attached to the confidentiality of their purchases. Following the exhibition around Mauboussin’s ruby, Maurice Dauzalle described it as “intelligence in motion” in L’Illustration in 1930. The Parisian house is quoted in fashion magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair and Harper’s Bazaar. From 1928 to 1933, the house took part in the Decorative Arts exhibition at the Grand Palais. From 1946, the House of Mauboussin joined the greatest names (such as Cartier, Boucheron, Van Cleef & Arpels and Chaumet) by moving to 20 Place Vendôme. Following the creation of the Vendôme Committee, whose aim was to bring together French prestige and luxury companies, Jean Goulet contributed, with the same objective, to the creation of the “Haute Joaillerie de France”, which aimed to promote French creation and quality abroad. The House is also a member of the Colbert committee founded in 1954. Collateral: They are accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of these earrings are excellent. During the roaring ’20s, Paris saw a confluence of wealthy and creative people flock to the city from all over the world, like artists, writers, princes and singers. Designer Georges Mauboussin understood the vibrant and cosmopolitan spirit of the time, and at the jewelry house he would propel to fame, Mauboussin, he became an iconic creator of Art Deco jewelry, using jade, lapis lazuli, pearls and other precious materials imported from around the globe.

The Mauboussin brand owes its success to expertise with precious metals and gems and its illustrious clientele. The fine jewelry house, originally founded in Paris in 1827 as the Maison Noury, is known for being highly experimental with mountings for diamonds, finding inspiration in fields like aeronautics (Georges’s son Pierre Mauboussin got into the airplane engineering business in the late 1920s) and filing patents for many of its inventions.

This modern sensibility drew royal clients from the Middle East and Egypt (Queen Nazli owned several dazzling pieces), as well as Hollywood stars like Marlene Dietrich and Charlie Chaplin. However, its most significant royal relationship was with the stylish maharaja of Indore, Yashwant Rao Holkar II, who designated Mauboussin as his official purveyor in 1933. One of the maison’s legendary pieces for the maharaja is a necklace that uses two of the world’s most beautiful diamonds, the Indore Pears, part of the maharaja’s collection.

In its long history, Mauboussin has found creative and beautiful ways to incorporate the tastes of the time into its luxury jewelry, responding to movements like Cubism as well as crises like the Great Depression when it shifted to more affordable pieces that would be available to a larger audience. (From 1936 to 1953, Mauboussin also partnered with Trabert & Hoeffer to stay afloat following the Wall Street crash.) In the 1990s, the company expanded into perfume and watches. Galeries Lafayette acquired a majority stake in the company in 2019 with the jeweler continuing to showcase a dedication to its French heritage with an international approach to design.
