About the Item

An enamel on copper, and leather necklace with a charming 'fish' motif designed by French jewellery designers, Loutzia. Each 'fish' is hand made with hot enamel on a copper base, and then assembled also by hand, the subtle colour variations and combinations creating a most unusual necklace.A rare and charming jewel, a delight to wear, and a worthy addition to a collection of jewellery design. The name 'Loutzia' is a combination of the names of its two founders, Marie-Louise Poncin and Maritzia Pravaz, both of Lyon origin, both born in 1914. They met at the Beaux-Arts of Paris, where a friend introduced them to the possibilities and qualities of enamel. They opened their first atelier on rue Soufflot, in Paris, then found a second and permanent home in rue Daguerre. They exhibited their jewellery, first in Lyon, then in Paris. Their first orders soon followed, buttons and belts for Christian Dior Haute Couture being amongst their celebrated clients. But it is ultimately their exquisite jewellery for which they are known and remembered. These were sold through Galerie du Siècle, then permanently at Fleurmay, rue de Rivoli. They later exhibited at the Salon des Artistes-Décorateurs, alongside the magical creations of Line Vautrin and Denise Gatard. A scarcely known name in the field of jewellery, with pieces very rarely seen, these wonderful jewels are known to true connoisseurs and jewellery aficionados.
