Victorian amethyst rivière necklace and bracelet, late 19th century

About the Item

Well matched victorian era amethyst demi parure, in silver collet settings. 31 (necklace) + 14 (bracelet) oval stones in vibrant light purple color. The name rivière comes from the French for "river", so the meaning is a river of gems that flows around the neck. This everlasting classic is comprised of gemstones of the same type that graduate smoothly in size. The gems are set in separate collet settings linked by small loops, so that the gems are featured prominently without excessive decoration. Rivieres became popular during the Georgian Period, 1714 – 1837, and were all the rage in the late Victorian period, 1880 – 1900. Swedish in origin, bracelet made by Hedblom 1893 and necklace by Hedblom made 1897. Necklace measures 16,92" (approximately 43 cm) in length. width approximately 0,47" – 0.67" (12 - 17 mm). Length of the bracelet approximately 6,69" (17 cm), width approximately 0,55-0,59" (14-15 mm). Total weight of the necklace and bracelet approximately 73 g. Both necklace and bracelet fully hallmarked, assay mark, year and maker. Hidden push tab closure at back. Lays beautifully on the neck and would be great layered. Very wearable.
