Late Victorian Amethyst and Rock Crystal Necklace
About the Item
A late Victorian amethyst and rock crystal necklace, the seven oval-shaped amethysts surrounded by a cluster of round-cut rock crystal set in silver to yellow gold, each cluster separated with a rock crystal folitate trefoil, the centre cluster suspending a pear-shaped amethyst and rock crystal drop,the amethysts estimated to weigh 60 carats in total, mounted in gold and silver, circa 1880, measuring approximately 40 x 2.2cm, gross weight 62.5grams.
A gorgeous and dramatic amethyst and crystal necklace. This piece features seven amethyst clusters: the amethyst stones are faceted and surrounded by a frame of rock crystal which complements the purple-hued stone wonderfully. Set between each amethyst cluster is a further cluster of rock crystal in a trefoil or clover shape. Hanging from the centre front of this piece is a pear-shaped amethyst with a further crystal frame. This beautiful necklace comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and would be a stunning addition to an evening gown.
