About the Item

A Renaissance Revival styled Austrian / Hungarian Gilt Silver Necklace hand made on the territories of the former Austrian Hungarian Empire, ca. 1900 -1920s. Hallmarked 830S and Swedish customs hallmarks used after 1911, no marks of the maker. A great example of an old Austrian-Hungarian Jewelry School. The necklace is 42 cm long closed. Metal parts made of Gilt 830 grade Silver accented with Black Enamel and half Pearls Ø 2.5 mm - 3.5 mm. Pendant 41 mm long x 20mm wide x 10 mm deep with natural oval cut Amethyst 11 mm x 9.5 mm x 6.5 mm / ca 5ct.. Weight: 25 grams Finest used condition, with minor wear to Enamels.. The Austrian, Hungarian, and Czech Bohemian Jewelers created designs in this same style between the 1880s and 1930s – all beautifully detailed on the front, and often featuring equally beautiful detail and whimsical designs on the back. They would very often use semi/ and precious stones and pearls as settings. They constructed these beauties of Silver and gilded them lightly with Gold, often adding further embellishment with Enamel of multiple colors and Pearls. > Most of the items that we sell are not new at all if not stated otherwise. Polishing of the band is always a final step of any resizing but machinery used for polishing causes vibration that old rings (with prongs for example ) often do not like at all. It is often difficult or impossible to get an accurate characteristics of the weight , color and nature of inclusions without removing the stones from the settings to be weighed and examined and doing that may damage the piece.
