Antique Egyptian Revival Necklace Sapphire Turquoise Enamel Gold Pharoah Goddess

About the Item

This is a very rare antique museum quality Egyptian Revival Necklace in Gold with Sapphires, Turquoise and Pearls with magnificent enamel work depicting images of the Pharoah or Goddess, or Nefertiti or Cleopatra. The elegant four strand festoon motif necklace has a large pendant drop at the bottom with a central enamel medallion of the Pharaoh. The image is surrounded by a halo of blue Sapphires. The pendant is further adorned with Turquoise cabochons as well as Pearls. The pendant has three elegant drops set with Turquoise. The necklace is set with four additional enamel decorated stations with images of the pharaoh or goddess. The necklace is 9 Karat Gold. The necklace dates to the Victorian period, circa 1850-1890. It is very rare to find early Egyptian Revival jewels set with Turquoise as well as Sapphires. The enamel images are stunning. The festoon swag multi-strand design of the necklace creates a fabulous draping effect. This is one of the most wonderful Egyptian Revival pieces we have seen and we are thrilled to be able to offer it to you. During the 19th century, the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced and brought on what is referred to as "archaeological revival jewelry," or "Egyptian revival jewelry." The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820s onward, and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery, such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics. The necklace is 20 inches (50 cm) long. The central pendant is 2 1/4 inches wide and is 2 inches long. There is some minimal enamel loss and some of the turquoise and pearls appear to have been replaced. There is wear to the sapphires visible with a jewelers loop. We have left the necklace in its current condition in keeping with the age and the rarity of the jewel. The necklace is 9 Karat Gold.
