About the Item
This is a very rare antique Victorian Turquoise Snake Pendant Necklace depicting a snake or serpent wrapped around a Turquoise egg or globe. The snake is beautifully created with stunning three dimensional design in 14 Karat yellow gold by the esteemed maker LINK & ANGELL. The dramatic design with the head of the snake reaching out is particularly wonderful and adds greatly to the mystique of the jewel. The egg or globe is a gorgeous natural Turquoise cabochon of a stunning color with beautiful natural matrix adding to the nature inspired imagery of the pendant. The snake pendant dates to circa 1850-1900. It is extremely rare to find these early snake jewels and particularly those with Turquoise which is so coveted today and we are so excited when we do. The combination of the stunning rendering of the golden snake with the hues of the natural turquoise create a wonderful antique jewel that is full of both drama and whimsy and the power and beauty of the natural world.
And snake jewelry is all the rage today. In the Victorian era the snake was the symbol of eternal love. It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth and wisdom.
The snake pendant is 22mm long with the bales. The snake portion without the bales is 17mm long. The pendant is 9mm wide.
The pendant is hallmarked 14K with makers mark of L & A for LINK & ANGELL of Newark, NJ.
