Victorian Snake Pendant Necklace Baroque Pearl Egg Globe Antique 14 Karat Gold
About the Item
This is a rare antique Victorian Two Snake Pendant Necklace depicting a snake or serpent wrapped around an egg or globe. The snake pendant is beautifully created in 14 Karat Yellow Gold with a high carat gold wash on top of the 14 Karat Gold as was typical of the period. The egg or globe is a gorgeous Baroque Pearl of a stunning and elegant shape. The pendant depicts two entwined snakes with their bodies encircling the egg or globe and their heads cradling the pearl at the bottom.
The design is absolutely fabulous. It is extremely rare to find these early snake jewels and we are so excited when we do. The combination of the stunning rendering of the golden snakes with the silvery white hues of the natural baroque pearl create a wonderful antique jewel that is full of both drama and whimsy and the power and beauty of the natural world.
And snake jewelry is all the rage today. In the Victorian era the snake was the symbol of eternal love. It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth and wisdom.
The snake pendant is 1 5/8 inches (4 cm) long with the bales. The pendant is 14mm wide.
The pearl is 16mm long and is 12mm wide.
The pendant is 14 Karat Gold with a 22-24 Karat gold wash.
The pendant weighs 6 grams.
