About the Item
A beautiful and sumptuous antique, Snake necklace.
This necklace features a beautiful and highly detailed snake head pendant set with juicy, rich red, Garnet cabochon both to the head and the eyes.
The snake holds suspended in its mouth the original Garnet set heart dropper locket, the reverse with a glazed panel housing tightly woven dark hair.
The chain is not original to the necklace and has been replaced with a Victorian era 15ct gold rope twist chain.
It has the original fastener which is concealed at the head of the snake.
A truly stunning piece of Victorian jewellery, lots of detailing packed into this impeccable and well designed piece.
Snake jewellery has been popular for thousands of years and was extremely popular in thd Victorian era, partly due to Prince Albert gifting a snake ring to Queen Victoria.
They represent eternal love, wisdom, rebirth and protection amongst other things.

Condition:
Good used condition overall, some light surface wear commensurate with age, replacement chain of a similar age.
