Antique Gemstone Giardinetti Flower Basket Conversion Necklace
About the Item
This remarkable giardinetti or "little garden" pendant from the Georgian or early Victorian era (circa 1820-1850)!
This outstanding pendant features an urn of flowers adorned with colorful gemstones. The pendant was originally an antique silver brooch transformed with the addition of a 14k gold bail. The pendant holds rose cut diamonds, a teardrop shaped pink tourmaline, a high domed natural sapphire, and smaller green and pink glass accents.
The pendant measures 1.6 inches from top to bottom by 0.85 inches wide. It is in great condition; however, one of the small pink glass cabochons was replaced with a tiny ruby and one of the green glass stones was replaced with an emerald. The sapphire also has a small chip on the side - visible only under magnification.
The photographed chain is no longer available and is not included with the pendant.
The metal content of this pendant was verified via XRF (x ray analysis) and with jeweler's acids.
