About the Item
A beautiful antique Late Victorian old cut diamond star brooch/pendant, set in silver and gold.
The piece is composed of a large star motif; set throughout with large old cut diamonds. The star motif was incredibly popular throughout the Victorian era, symbolising guidance and wisdom. What makes this piece so special is the way it has been designed! The Victorians were renowned for their convertible jewellery designs and this piece is no exception. To the back of the star is a removable brooch pin and integrated pendant fitting, meaning the star can be worn as both a brooch and pendant.
The piece echoes the Victorian era perfectly, and due to the versatility could be worn for a variety of occasions.
For size reference, the star measures 5 centimetres in diameter (from the widest points) and there is a gross weight of 19.3 grams. There is an estimated combined old cut diamond weight of 6.00 carats. The diamonds range from I-J in colour with VS-SI clarity. Due to the age of the piece, it is not hallmarked, however has been tested for gold and silver. Estimated circa 1890-1900.
