About the Item

Antique English pendant with a barometer. This English antique pendant-charm is an unusual curiosity, it's a pocket barometer created during the late Victorian era. This extraordinary and very rare pendant-charm it dates from the latter half of the 19th Century, circa 1880. The case has been crafted with a round shape in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. It is fitted with a mechanical barometer protected by a convex crystal. This is a super interesting "scientific" pendant-charm and will definitely be a great conversation starter because of its rarity and unusual. Similar pieces were made and retailed in Paris by Cam Opticien, located at 24 Rue de la Paix. This is a very strange, and very cool, thing. Barometer A barometer is a scientific instrument that is used to measure air pressure in a certain environment. Pressure tendency can forecast short term changes in the weather. Many measurements of air pressure are used within surface weather analysis to help find surface troughs, pressure systems and frontal boundaries. Barometers and pressure altimeters (the most basic and common type of altimeter) are essentially the same instrument but used for different purposes. An altimeter is intended to be used at different levels matching the corresponding atmospheric pressure to the altitude, while a barometer is kept at the same level and measures subtle pressure changes caused by weather and elements of weather. The average atmospheric pressure on the Earth's surface varies between 940 and 1040 hPa (mbar). The average atmospheric pressure at sea level is 1013 hPa (mbar). Weight: 15.5 Grams, (9.95 Dwt). Measurements: Diameter of 27 mm by a height of 12 mm (1.06 x 0.47 Inches). Hallmarks: The case is unmarked, but was electronically tested for 18kt gold, (.750/.999 Au). The dial of the barometer has the maker's monogram RJS. Collateral: This barometer charm is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this pendant is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, with some dings. The barometer is working and is secured in the settings. This charm has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and the authenticity.
