French Late 19th Century Gem-Set Fly Locket

About the Item

A French late 19th century gem-set fly locket, the thorax an old cushion-cut diamond estimated to weigh 0.5 carats, the eyes and wings set with rose-cut diamonds, the abdomen set with a cushion-set ruby estimated to weigh 0.3 carats and a pear-shaped emerald estimated to weigh 0.15 carats, on realistically carved gold legs, all set to a rock crystal frame mounted in gold, bearing French gold marks for 18ct gold and makers mark L.H. circa 1890, measuring approximately 4 x 2cm, gross weight 16.4 grams. This antique locket is in excellent condition for its age. This charming locket pendant comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Nineteenth century jewellery often featured insect motifs, and this piece is a lovely example of this trend. This special piece would be unique and eye-catching when worn as a pendant and would add Victorian whimsy to even an everyday outfit. Should you choose to make this purchase we would be delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
