About the Item
This is a wonderfully unusual gilt necklace and bracelet made from ornate watchcocks from Georgian verge pocket watches dating to the 1700s to 1800s.
Each watch cock is fabulously hand pierced and hand engraved with the most intricate of designs. They are joined by matching gilt rings. These are intriguing pieces that get better the closer you look - close enough and you’ll start noticing all manner of fantastic figures and statuesque devices - including wheels, grimacing faces, vines and flowers, animals, stars and more.
A jewelry fad of the Victorian era involved the making of items from the wheel caps of old watches, called Watch Cocks or escapements. These round, flat pieces of the chase-work fittings came from inside antique watches and are highly ornamental. Once removed from the watch, they were connected by "o" rings and made into bracelets, necklaces, brooches and earrings.
The jewel is Steampunk divine in this verge fusee pocket watch escapement necklace from the Georgian period, circa early 1800s. The necklace, assembled from pocket watch escapements from the early 1800s, features gold gilded watch balance cocks bearing ornate chase work.
The necklace is 15 inches long so wearable as a choker.
The necklace has a secure antique clasp.
The second section is 6 1/2 inches long and is the perfect length for a matching bracelet or you may use it to add links to the necklace.
The bracelet section requires a jump ring clasp if used as a bracelet.
The necklace weighs 71.5 grams and the bracelet weighs 25 grams.
Each watchcock measures around 37mm (1.5 inches) x 22 mm.

This is a rare museum quality early Rose Cut Diamond Pendant dating to the Georgian Era set with an abundance of antique Rose Cut Diamonds set in silver atop 14 Karat gold as was the custom of the period. The pendant of great beauty and dating to the 1700s.
Diamonds were all the rage in the Georgian period and this is a wonderful example. Early pieces such as this are extremely difficult to find. This one is so immensely wearable as the size is just perfect for wearing either day or night. It has stunning period character and style.
The pendant is 68 mm (2 3/4 inches) long from the top of the bale to the bottom of the pendant. Without the bale it is 58 mm long. It is 45 mm (1 3/4 inches) wide at the widest point.
The rose cut diamonds are set in silver collets atop 14 Karat gold.
The gold bale is a later addition.
There has been some restoration of the pendant as is visible from the back - this is very typical of the early Georgian jewels...
