About the Item

Convertible necklace epaulette-brooch designed by Vever Paris. This is a wonderful convertible necklace-pendant-brooch created in Paris France during the art deco period by the jewelry house of Vever, back in the 1920. The fabulous carved Chinese jade plaque is hanging from a platinum mounting and set-up with European rose cuts diamonds and black onyxes. This kind of jewelry is typical of the Art Deco period when there was a fascination with the Orient. The platinum mounting is embellished with one-hundred-two rose cuts diamonds and two bullets cut shaped onyxes. The piece is fitted with a hinged bar with a security lock to wear as a brooch and a concealed ring to use in a chain as pictured. The platinum diamonds station chain is mount with seventy-three European round cut diamonds and can be removed. The carved Jade pendant features a gorgeous mottling of hues which is really beautiful. Depicting birds, trees and flowers foliage theme symbolising fertility and prosperity Vever Paris Henri Vever directed the family jewelry business, begun in Metz by his grandfather Pierre-Paul Vever (d. 1853). After the capture of Metz in the Franco-Prussian War (1871), the family moved to Luxembourg and then Paris, where the Maison Vever became well established on the Rue de la Paix. Henri Vever (1854-1942) was a prominent French jeweler and art collector, known for his significant contributions to the Art Nouveau and art deco movement and his role in the family's jewelry business, Maison Vever. He is celebrated for his innovative use of enamel and gemstones, often inspired by Japanese art, and for his role in the revival of French jewelry design in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Jade: Mount in a dangling setting, with 1 carved piece of natural non-treated translucent green jadeite jade (64.25 x 38.02 x 6.65 mm), with an estimate weight of about 132 carats. Onyx: Mounted in three-prongs settings, with 2 well matched round bullets cabochons cut (9 x 9 x 7 mm) carved from natural black onyx, with an estimate weight of 9 carats. Birthstone: Jadeite jade for the month of August. Weight: 47.50 Grams, (30.45 Dwt). Length: The station chain is 26 Inches, (66.04 Cm). Measurements: The pendant-brooch itself is 90 mm by 38 mm by 11 mm (3.5 x 1.50 x 0.43 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks; the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the platinum, the four-digits inventory numbers and signed as follows: "VEVER PARIS 1477". Collateral: This necklace-pendant brooch is accompanied by a certificate appraisal prepared by a GIA certified gemologist stating all the characteristics of this piece of jewelry, the exact description of the gemstones displayed and the today's market replacement value.
