About the Item
Creating an illusion of an eternity ring with stones seeming to flow around the entire band, the exceptionally bold and fun cocktail ring made in Italy in the 21st century, 2018, is crafted in 18K white gold and features a vibrant blue topaz weighing an estimated 8.10 carats, and green tourmaline, which is a rare and sumptuous coloration for the gemstone. The single blue topaz is flanked by 8 fabulous smaller green tourmaline stones part way around the band.
The center stone is a heart shape cut of sorts, geometricized, and simplified, set sideways with just three prongs. Blue Topaz represents loyalty and righteousness and is associated with true love which is clear-sighted. The green tourmalines are shaped as curvier hearts, each set with a proliferation of prongs in varying numbers, six at most, four at the least. They echo the orientation of the center stone, set sideways, with the heart’s point in all 9 stones facing the same direction, creating a beautiful pulsating arrow—or perhaps a modern and streamlined Cupid’s arrow, if you will.
The maker of the Topaz and Tourmaline Cocktail Ring is Adamas Milano, founded in 1960 in the historic center of Milan and now managed by Cristiano Baccarini who has taken up his father’s legacy of Milanese traditional master goldsmithing techniques and stone setting. The unconventional designs from this Italian jewelry house are supple yet bold, adept, and luxurious, presenting gems with a feeling of abundance even in minimalist compositions.
Tourmaline is most commonly black, but can range from colorless to brown, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, pink, or hues in between. The stone can be bi-colored, or even tri-colored and quite rarely can be neon green or electric blue. In green tourmaline, the pleochroism is typically strong, showing dark green and yellow-green when observed at different angles; however, the vibrant green examples featured in this lovely cocktail ring sparkle with a rare and prized purity of color. Likewise, the blue coloration of the topaz featured stone is valuable and pleasing; however, it is brought out by heat treatment, originating from colorless topaz, as all colors of this stone including white, blue, brown, orange, gray, yellow, yellowish brown, green, pink, reddish pink, and red are derived. The retail price of this ring was originally $2,585.
