About the Item
An Art Deco diamond, sapphire, and platinum ring, comprising nine old European cut diamonds, in platinum.
My favourite thing about this Art Deco Platinum Diamond and Sapphire Ring, is the sensational design. What’s yours? Perhaps the sparkling diamonds? Or the vibrant sapphires?
This striking Art Deco ring is in the Odeonesque style, a chunky design style, which features asymmetry and bold gemstones, often with a curved element, popular from the late 1930s, into the 1940s. Rings such as this are often referred to as ‘tank’ rings, with inspiration for their symmetrical lines of gemstones and bold, sizeable design being drawn from the tracks of WW2 tanks. This glorious ring is first set with a pair of old European cut diamonds, set upon a curl of platinum. From here, the ring sweeps up, bearing an elegant, fan-like engraving, before an undulating, tapering line of diamonds sweeps us away again. The central line of diamonds is enveloped by 2 rows of step cut blue sapphires, before terminating with a final, smaller pair of old European cut diamonds, set atop a platinum curl. The diamonds are bright white, sparkly, and well-matched with one another, with good clarity and colour. The ring is raised upon a pierced, scrolling gallery, and the broad shoulders of the ring lead to a plain, polished band of platinum. The ring is in great condition, with a small ding to one shoulder. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The ring measures 10.7mm long, and the setting measures 22.8mm wide. The ring rises 7.4mm off the hand, and the band measures 4.7mm wide at the back.
