About the Item

A French Art Deco masterpiece! Created in France in the 1920s, this natural saltwater pearl and diamond ring is a geometric tour de force and one of the most gorgeous natural pearl rings in my collection. The gleaming platinum mounting was entirely hand-fabricated and when seen from the side nearly resembles the Crystal Palace from the 1851 World Exposition. A pair of fleur-de-lis grace each shoulder. When it was created a century ago, it was decidedly feminine. Today, it is architectural -even industrial. And could be worn by anyone. The face of the ring occupies two planes; one forward and a second slightly held back. We have a large natural saltwater pearl set atop a cut corner square. There is another pearl set above and one below. Running horizontally top and bottom is a bar of 4 tiny old-mine sparkling diamonds. The "lower level" of the face features four additional pearls at the top and four on the bottom. There are 4 additional small silver pearls stacked on either side. Altogether: 19 pearls ranging in size from 2mm and 3.30mm on the sides to 4.50mm for the pearls above and below the center pearl, which measures 6.8 x 7.0mm. All the pearls display the thick and luscious nacre and luminous beauty that is the exclusive domain of the uncultured pearl. Gems, every single one of them, even the smallest. The ring bears the French mark for platinum at the rear of the shank but no maker's mark, just the ghost of what may have once been one. This pearl and diamond ring is a size 6 ½ and could be resized by your local jeweler. It ships with a certificate from The Gem & Pearl Laboratory stating that the central pearl is a natural —non-cultured— saltwater pearl. Only the main pearl was tested but as a certified gemologist with advanced training in pearls, I can guarantee that, in fact, all the pearls in this ring are natural and uncultured. A marvelous and unique jewel featuring the rarest gems our oceans can provide. A timelessly chic and classic ring you will adore wearing and passing on.

Jade & Pearl Ring Certified Untreated
Located in Southbury, CT
A large oval cabochon of translucent seafoam green jadeite jade is surrounded by 16 luminous natural pearls in this ever-stylish 14K white gold halo ring from the early 1950s. The jade stone is natural and untreated and displays a high degree of translucency. Which is why this jade ring looks spectacular whether it is in direct sunshine, or just barely illuminated by the waning light of a nearby window. The luminous jade stone changes its appearance throughout the day, as the light changes. The jade cabochon measures 14.5mm x 9.19mm Seafoam green was pointedly on-trend in the 1950s when this ring was hand-fabricated. The pearls surrounding the jade are at least partially drilled —possibly they are drilled all the way through; I can't tell because of how they are set in the mounting. At least one and probably all of the pearls are natural, un-cultured saltwater pearls. They are older than the ring itself. It's not unusual to encounter repurposed jewelry...
