Abstract cocktail ring designed by Jean Mahie.
A beautiful piece of wearable art, created in Paris France by the artist and goldsmith Jean Mahie. This vintage sculptural ring has been crafted with abstract shape in solid rich yellow gold of 22 karats with all the surfaces finished with textured and hammered patterns.
Weight: 12.95 grams (8.31 Dwt).
Size: 8 sizable.
Measurements: 31 mm by 22 mm (1.22 x 0.87 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks, the eagle's head for the assay of the 22kt gold, and signed, "JM 22KT".
Jean Mahie, is the result of a wonderfully symbiotic and fruitful partnership between Jacline Mazard and her father-in-law Jean-Marie Mazard. They first began combining their artistic talents in 1969, working from a studio in Mouans-Sartoux in the South of France, and launched their jewellery line the following year. Neither was formally trained and both preferred to work with 22ct gold in order to realise their unique style that embodied primitive form, motifs and techniques. Everything they made was entirely hand crafted with Jacline often drawing inspiration from her memories of growing up near the ancient ruins of Carthage in Tunisia.
Their bold, imaginative, exotic pieces in richly hued yellow gold fitted perfectly with the bohemian fashions of the late 60s and early 1970s. Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier showed an early interest in their work with both firms retailing their pieces. Jacline recalls, “Louis Arpels, 82 years old at the time, saw our work and convinced us to sell our productions to Van Cleef and Arpels. Cartier followed as well. So in November 1970, we had our creations in their windows, Place Vendôme and rue de la Paix in Paris, with our name shown.” (With thanks from Hancocks),

Jean Mahie
Bold, vibrant and full of life, the remarkably ebullient gold jewelry of French brand Jean Mahie has dazzled collectors from the moment it first appeared. Featuring motifs derived from classical mythology and ancient architecture, Jean Mahie earrings, necklaces, bracelets and other accessories are characterized by sinuous lines and simple, primordial shapes.
Painter and sculptor Jacline Mazard was at loose ends with her art career when her father-in-law, sculptor and goldsmith Jean-Marie Mazard, recognized her potential and invited her to join him in his workshop in the South of France. Self-taught, Jean-Marie Mazard shared his love of working with gold with his daughter-in-law, and the pair began collaborating in 1969 under the name Jean Mahie.
A shrewd businessman, Jean-Marie Mazard focused on efforts to market the pair’s striking creations, and with the support of a public relations executive, early publicity promptly resulted in acclaim and wide recognition. Their work eventually fit snugly alongside the candy-colored gems and bohemian fashions of the late 1960s and 1970s, an era of free expression and fascination with cultures around the world that yielded vibrant jewelry with global influences.
Working with 22-karat yellow gold, Jean Mahie’s founders produced bold designs that drew on architecture and artifacts of Mediterranean history, inspired by Jacline’s childhood, which took shape not far from the ruins of ancient Carthage in Tunisia. Their textured, sculptural link necklaces, cuff bracelets, dangle earrings and other pieces garnered praise from the likes of Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, both of which engaged in partnerships with Jean Mahie. Neiman Marcus later became the sole retailer of the brand’s jewelry.
Jean-Marie Mazard passed away in 1994. Jacline Mazard now designs alongside her son and daughter in their studio in New York City.

The unusual ring was carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with textured finish. The design is composed by six geometric scrolls and embellished with two white colorless diamonds.

Peter Lindeman
He was born in Berlin. Lindeman grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay, apprenticing with a fine European firm. In 1947, at the age of 17, he headed to New York, where he worked for several high-end jewelers. After selling his designs to some of the most renowned businesses in the fine jewelry industry, Peter Lindeman set out to make a name for himself. Between crafting some truly innovative designs and developing new methods for reaching customers, both skill and hard work led to acclaim for his jewelry. His workshop supplied pieces to retailers such as Tiffany & Co., Shreve, Crump & Lowe, and Bailey Banks & Biddle. In 1955, he started designing his own jewelry and created his signature hallmark – a teardrop with an “L” placed on the back of every piece. Bruno Guidi, was a Brazilian artist, sculptor and jeweler of Italian descent. He settled in Brazil after the Post War and was a collaborator of the architect Roberto Burle Marx. Bruno Guidi was the lead designer and chief goldsmith of the acclaimed Brazilian jeweler Haroldo Burle Marx for 35 years. He collaborated with the designs of the jeweler Haroldo Burle Marx and his atelier was responsible for the manufacture of all Burle Marx jewelry pieces offered Brazil and in the Washington DC gallery at the Watergate Hotel.
