A cocktail ring with malachite designed by Gucci. This large horse-bit cocktail ring is one of the most Iconic and popular models created by the fashion and jewelry house of Gucci, in the late 20th century. This beautiful ring has been crafted in Milano Italy in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. The setting is designed in the shape of the Maison horse bits patterns that are holding on top a natural green malachite. Malachite This gemstone is sedimentary and is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. This opaque, green-banded mineral crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system, and most often forms botryoidal, fibrous, or stalagmitic masses, in fractures and deep, underground spaces, where the water table and hydrothermal fluids provide the means for chemical precipitation. Individual crystals are rare, but occur as slender to acicular prisms. Pseudomorphs after more tabular or blocky azurite crystals also occur. Its formation is based on layers of the same material that when compressed creates the variety of layers and the range of greenish colors. Each layer is individual and if inspected with a microscope you can observe its formation. Sometimes fissures are observed in these joints but this does not mean that there is a fracture or crack that would unstabilize the gem.
