THIS IS A WONDERFUL ANTIQUE ART NOUVEAU - VICTORIAN - BELLE EPOQUE - ENTWINED SNAKE RING WITH TWO SPECTACULAR NATURAL UNTREATED FINE BLUE SAPPHIRE SET HEADS. THE RING HAS FRENCH HALLMARKS AND IS 18 KARAT YELLOW GOLD. THE SNAKE RING WITH THE INCREDIBLE NATURAL SAPPHIRES IS A MUSEUM QUALITY JEWEL.
Provenance: The antique ring is from the personal Paris collection of one of Cartier's preeminent jewelry designers.
This is one of the finest antique snake rings we have seen. The wonderful entwined snakes are set with two natural untreated fine blue rectangular faceted Sapphires of wonderful size and color. Each sapphire is approximately .65 Carats for a total of approximately 1.3 Carats of Sapphires. The color of these gems is exquisite. The design of the ring is the work of a master artisan. The two snakes are three dimensional with beautiful engraving and repousse work. The ring is hallmarked with the French Eagle's head for 18 Karat Gold as well as a maker's mark.
And snake and nature inspired jewelry is all the rage today.
In the Victorian era the snake was the symbol of eternal love. It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth and wisdom.

Two natural oval faceted untreated fine blue Sapphires.
Each Sapphire is approximately 6mm by 4mm by 3mm and .65 Carats.

The top of the ring is 15mm wide.

Rare Japan Shakudo Snake Ring 14 Karat Gold Antique Victorian Samurai circa 1870

This is a very rare ring depicting a snake traveling through the grass in the historic Japanese art form of Shakudo, in 14 Karat Gold. The Shakudo pieces originated in the Samurai period in Japan and were created by esteemed artists who made ornaments to adorn swords and armor. When the Samurai period ended, these artists moved to making wearable art during the period of the 1870s - 1900.
Here we have a very rare Shakudo piece of a snake traveling through grass. Notice the grace of the proportion of the images and the Japanese esthetic of asymmetry. The mixed metals Shakudo plaque is set in 14 Karat Gold.
In the Victorian era the snake was the symbol of eternal love. It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth and wisdom.

An exceptional antique 0.29 carat sapphire and 0.24 carat diamond, 18 karat yellow gold snake ring; part of our diverse antique jewelry collections.
This exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian ring has been crafted in 18k yellow gold.
The ring has a substantial, multi-strand form, modelled in the shape of two intertwined snakes*.
The serpents' heads are independently ornamented with a 0.29 ct round faceted cut sapphire and a 0.24ct Dutch cut diamond.
The multi strand shank form integrates in to the design, forming both the head and tail of each snake.
The interior of the ring shank features the contemporary engraved inscription 'Henley - 1907 - Strasbourg, a Rodolphe Toma le doyeune'**.
This antique gemstone serpent ring has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18k gold.
The ring is supplied with an independent diamond grading report card.
NOTE: * Snakes were a universally popular expression of eternal love or a powerful symbol of wisdom.
** Due to the nature of this inscription this piece may have been engraved to commemorate the 1907 European Rowing Championships which were noted to be held in Strasbourg; the coxswain of many Belgian gold medals for this event was Rodolphe Colbaert.
