About the Item

A sculptural ring designed by Reinhold Reiling (1922-1983). This double cylinder’s ring was created in Pforzheim Germany, by the artist goldsmith Reinhold Reiling circa 1968-1970. The ring has been crafted with modernist geometric patterns in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. The ring is designed with two cylinders; one small accented with seven white colorless diamonds, and one large which is mounted with an Afghani vivid blue lapis lazuli Reinhold Reiling Reinhold Reiling, born in 1922 in the vicinity of Pforzheim, initially trained as a steel engraver in the jewelry industry. His studies at the Pforzheim and Dresden schools already pointed the direction Reiling intended to take. It was neither jewelry manufacturing nor jewelry making as an artistic handicraft that interested him, but the individual pieces known at the time as "object jewelry." Although his very early pieces from the 1950s bore the mark of the day’s “modern jewelry design,’ their form nonetheless clearly differed from the conventional. In the 1960s, his innovative works became entirely incompatible with the manufactured and artistic jewelry mentioned above. The treatment of surfaces, manner of working the metal, and the way precious stones were employed, were unprecedented.” Reinhold Reiling was one of the trailblazers of modern art jewelry in Germany. As a professor at the Arts and Crafts School, which is Pforzheim’s university today, he influenced generations of jewelry designers. He was Goldsmith, Industrial Designer & Engraver. He was taught in Pforzheim and maintained a workshop there. “No one who has been involved with contemporary jewelry since the late 1970s will have been entirely able to escape the influence of Reinhold Reiling art. As both teacher and jewelry maker, Reiling was a seminal personality for at least a generation of jewelry artists. The effects of his ideas and opinions about jewelry, his “eye,” continue to inform the work of jewelry makers who studied with him, or who chose - openly - to take his way of seeing and designing jewelry as the point of departure for their own work. There were few in the years from about 1950 to 1960 whose significance for the field was so far-reaching. His Munich rival - and it was a positive, constructive rivalry - Hermann Jünger was one; another was Klaus Ullrich, a fellow instructor for years, not always without tensions, at the Kunst+Werkschule, now Hochschule für Gestaltung, the College of Design in Pforzheim. Diamonds: The small cylinder is mounted in a pave setting, with 7 European round cut diamonds, 0.07 Carats, white colorless F color, VS clarity. Birthstone: Lapis lazuli for the month of September. Weight: 9.6 Grams, (6.20 Dwt). Size: 4.75 and may be easily sized up or down on special request. Measurements: 21 mm by 15 mm (0.83 x 0.59 Inches) and raise 6 mm over the finger.
