About the Item
Miniature portrait octagonal ring in yellow gold 18 karats. Ring with a miniature depicting an elegant lady from the Revolutionary period protected by a glass. The ring’s band is plain and splits into gold strands at the shoulders to hold the ring’s plate. Neoclassical portrait rings of this type emerged around 1780, replacing the circular and oval-faced rococo portrait rings of the 1750-1760, and can the characterized by three distinguishing traits: a large octagonal ring face; a marked curvature to the ring head, to mold against the finger; and often a flaring shank with elegant and beveled contours throughout.
