About the Item

Burmese sapphire and diamond cluster ring. Set centrally with one cushion shape old cut natural unenhanced Burmese sapphire in an open back claw setting with an approximate weight of 5.36 carats, flanked by eight round brilliant cut diamonds in open back claw settings with a combined approximate weight of 1.78 carats, enriched by a cluster of twenty two marquise shape brilliant cut diamonds in open back claw settings with a combined weight of 4.70 carats. The total approximate diamond weight is 6.48 carats, to a magnificent three row oval cluster with an intricately pierced openwork gallery and fancy open backholing, the trumpeting shoulders leading through to a solid shank with fancy open ropework detail. Marked 18 carat yellow gold, maker's mark "GFS" for Golay Fils & Stahl, circa 1965, accompanied by Gubelin Gemlab report #11070101 and certificate of authenticity from Golay Files & Stahl. UK finger size H. Golay Fils & Stahl is a historic Geneva-based jeweller established in 1837. Originally a clockmaker, they later became renowned for their exclusive jewels and their notable international clientele, including the King Carol I of Romania and the Maharajah of Baroda. Between 1860 and 1930 they opened premises in Paris and eventually shifted their focus from watchmaking to high-end jewels and precious stones. In 1961 Jacques Wolfgang, a precious stones vendor to the firm since the 1930s purchased Golay Fils & Stahl. Today, the business continues under the leadership of the Wolfgang family and their long tradition of custom-made masterpieces continues. Please note shipping to the United States of America requires the purchaser to fill out a CBP 5106 customs form before the item is shipped. This form is a legal requirement for any item over $2,000 which is being imported into the United States. One of the details the form requests is the purchaser’s social security number or importer’s number.
