Aquamarine & Clean, White Diamond Ring of Elegant Restraint
About the Item
Because Aquamarine can be -and often is- found in large sizes, most aquamarine rings feature stones the the size of a domino. And because Aquamarine was wildly popular in the 1940s -also known in the jewelry world as the "retro" era, the mountings themselves were often quite flamboyant, with grand, sweeping asymmetrical lines, rows of dazzling diamonds or rubies, and prongs as long as press-on nails.
But this. This aquamarine is perfect. To me. It features a beautiful sky blue natural aquamarine in a rectangular cushion cut that measures 8.20 x 6.56 for a weight of approximately 1.60 carats. And because it rises just 6.95mm off the surface of the finger, you could actually slide your hand into a pocket.
On either side of this gorgeous, gemmy-blue stone is a pair of approximately .10ct diamonds that are significantly whiter, brighter and cleaner (VS) than they needed to be. When small diamonds are of exceptionally fine quality -finer than the eye can see- this signifies quality. It's something certain jewelers do out of pride. It's a little statement. It says, "We didn't cut a single corner: look closer."
This 14K yellow gold ring is marked KSK 14K on the interior and could represent NYC Midcentury jewelry manufacturer, Kritzer Stern & Klein Inc.
The ring is a size 6.5 and could be resized by your local jeweler.

View AllDiamond Stanhope Ring in Aluminum
Located in Southbury, CT
A rare aluminum and diamind stanhope ring.
A "Stanhope lens" is a tiny single-lens microscope invented in the late 18th century by Eton-educated Charles Stanhope, the 3rd Earl Stanhope. The unique construction of the lens requires that the object to be magnified be near or in direct contact with the lens. Photography, which had been invented several decades prior to the Stanhope lens, was ever-evolving, and something called "microphotographs" became a thing in the mid-1800s. These tiny photographs could not be seen without a microscope. The Victorians, dressed as they were in multiple layers of social decorum, etiquette, and clothing, loved microphotographs because they were cunning, and the subject matter could be naughty —filthy naughty, even— yet remain invisible to anyone without a microscope. The Stanhope lens came along at just the right time and was eagerly adopted; incorporated into everything from crucifixes to sewing scissors. And, of course, set into rings.
