About the Item

A fine Edwardian figural matchsafe or vesta. In sterling silver. In the shape of a heart. Made by William Hair Haseler of Birmingham, England in 1898. With engraved leaf decoration throughout, an striker to the side, a sturdy hinge, and an internal spring. Engraved with a monogramed shield cartouche to the front. Simply a wonderful antique silver vesta! Date: 1898 Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: William Hair Hasseler Marks: Marked to the rim with W.H.H. for William Hair Hasseler / lion passant for sterling / Y for 1898 (the mark is reversed) / anchor for Birmingham.
