Antique William Spratling Taxco Sterling Silver and Ebony Salt & Pepper Shakers

About the Item

A fine pair of silver & ebony wood salt & pepper shakers. In sterling silver. By William Spratling of Taxco, Mexico. Each with a square ebony block with silver accents supporting a large silver shaker head. Marked to the base of each with William Spratling's maker's mark. Simply a wonderful pair of salt & pepper shakers! Reference: see the Art Institute of Chicago ref no. 1984.1153a-d. Date: ca. 1960 Overall Condition: They are in overall fair, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: One wooden base has a re-glued crack that runs the length of the body. Otherwise, there is a small dent to the side of one silver tops, some light edge wear, some persistent tarnish, some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: William Spratling Marks: Marked to the base with William Spratling's maker's mark / Sterling Fineness: Marked Sterling for silver fineness.
