About the Item

A Pair Handmade Qhalamzani Silver Persian Beakers, late 19th Century, Isfahan. A pair of silver beakers of tapering form, profusely handmade repoussé decorated with carved stylized flower and leaf ornaments by scrolling foliage in closed panels. The beakers are finely chased in Middle Eastern style. Weight 229 grams. Dimensions: Height 10.5 cm X Width 6.5 cm Ghalamzani or Qhalamzani; The Persian Art of Engraving on Metal. Silver is a precious metal discovered in about 600 BC. Ancient art in Persia has been a massive influence on the arts and culture of the region and it was during the Achaemenid Dynasty era that the first upsurge of Persian art occurred. Engraving Ghalamzani is the art of carving superb designs on various metals such as copper, brass, silver and gold. Isfahan was and remain the main center for engraving.
